Shane Carl was born on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at 1:24 PM. He was 6 lbs 10 oz and was 18 3/4" long. He was our first and we couldn't have been more proud. We waited 12 long years for him.
From early on, Shane loved me to read books to him. As soon as he could walk, he enjoyed going to the book shelf and picking out the next one to read. It wouldn't be nothing to go through 15-20 books at one sitting. He learned his letter sounds early, but didn't have much of a vocabulary. It wasn't until he was 2 1/2 that we found out he was tongue tied and had that corrected. With a little help from speech class, his vocabulary really took off and he hasn't stopped talking!!
Shane has had a rough go of it with kids his own age, as he can get too handsy. But you couldn't ask for a better boy at home. He rarely threw a tantrum or fit, and has always easily went to time out when needed. He also is easy to compromise with and was a good listener for me.
His academic abilities continued to grow. He couldn't get enough and wanted to know about everything. He always seems to keep me on my toes and challenged. By the age of 2, he had his letter sounds down pat, was counting in english and spanish, and showing a really good memory. By the age of 5, he has really advanced greatly to include reading and writing complete sentences, counting in french too, able to tell basic time, knows his left from right, can tell directions, is doing simple math and fractions. He can count to 1oo and recognizes those numbers in writing, as well as being able to write them. He does well with a calendar, can cut, loves to paint, and so much more. He continues to amaze me!
Shane's favorite color is red and he loves trains and dinosaurs. He also loves spiderman!! He loves to help out around the house, but has found a great love with computers over the past year. He also enjoys video games. But he's really become independent lately with what he can do. He can fix his own drinks, makes his bed (and helps his sister make hers), and helps me with so much around the house. As with his sister, he loves to brush his teeth.
Shane has always been tall for his age. Off the charts tall, actually. His weight has always been around the 75%, so even though he's tall, he's proportioned. We don't know where he's gotten his height from, but he seems to grow over night!
Shane has a great imagination and loves make up stories to tell. He has the brightest blue/green eyes and has a smile that always makes me smile. He doesn't know a stranger and loves to talk to anyone that he may see.
